THE NIGHT OF THE ASSASSINS:
The Transcreation of José Triana’s Dramatic Text into the Performance Text of Máskara – Transdisciplinary Research Center for Theatre, Dance, and Performance
This article discusses the play La Noche de los Asesinos by José Triana, analyzing the process of transcreation into the stage performance A Noite dos Assassinos, which premiered in 2018 by the Máskara – Núcleo Transdisciplinar de Pesquisas em Teatro, Dança e Performance, a group founded in 2002 at the Federal University of Goiás School of Music and Performing Arts.

In Triana’s play, three siblings retreat to an attic or basement to reenact the murder of their parents, in a symbolic reference to the Cuban revolutionary process that began in 1959. Drawing on an interview with Triana conducted by the American professor Diana Taylor, the article offers an analysis of the work through its political, psychological, and aesthetic dimensions.
